SkillShastra — EdTech Platform

The Context

SkillShastra is an EdTech startup with a mission to democratize access to professional online training. Their vision: a platform where instructors and learners meet in a simple, structured, and motivating experience.

The project started from a blank page — no existing product, only a vision and a feature list.

The Challenge

Building a learning platform from scratch imposes serious technical constraints:

• Searchable and filterable course catalog with hundreds of entries
• Content management system for instructors to publish modules without touching code
• Per-learner progress tracking
• Secure payment and subscription management
• Mobile-first interface for a predominantly smartphone audience

Our Approach

We chose a modular architecture: each major feature (catalog, profiles, payment, progress) is an independent module, easily extensible as the product grows.

Relational database. PostgreSQL via Prisma to model the instructor / course / module / learner relationship with precision. Queries are optimized from the start to handle scale.

Next.js with ISR. Course pages are statically generated at publish time and regenerated on each update — the best of both worlds: performance and freshness.

Stripe for payment. Stripe webhook integration for real-time access management after payment, without fragile client-side logic.

The Result

Delivered in four weeks with over 500 courses available at launch. Pages load in under two seconds on mobile. The instructor management interface is intuitive enough to use without training.

The platform allowed SkillShastra to begin commercial operations on schedule.
